What about making animals have snake-like skin.
Of course, i'd recommend this to be an rare case of mutation, that doesn't happen too often, but you could say like you have a dog with scales instead of fur, yet the scales are the same color as his fur would be, maybe. And, at times, the dog has to shed the whole skin off.

I know, a weird suggestion, but I wanted to suggest soommmeeething for the sake of suggesting. I will try to think of others to, maybe some that can reach out and help even more touch others hearts as they come on here.

O.o... I simply love your first suggestion! I should have thought of it earlier.. XD... Yes... I would definately make it a rare mutation buuuuuuuuut... Maybe to make things interesting, animals with this mutation can have some fur on their legs or they can't have at all. it all depends on the scientist. =]

Erm... Ok... I apologise first. I simply don't understand your second suggestion...
